Mailtrap Pricing Plans for Email API, Sandbox and Marketing

Mailtrap sends 10,000 emails for $15 a month, 50,000 for $20 and 100,000 for $30 on Basic, with Business from $85 and Enterprise from $750. Sandbox testing and Email Marketing are separate price lists, each with its own free tier.

Features

What Mailtrap actually bills you for

Emails sent, in volume steps

Email API/SMTP is sold as a monthly allowance. Basic steps are 10,000, 50,000 and 100,000; Business 100,000 to 750,000; Enterprise 1.5 and 2.5 million.

Extra emails per 1,000

Overage is $1.00 on Basic, $0.88 on Business and $0.55 on Enterprise, capped by Mailtrap. The free plan cannot go over.

Test emails, separately

Email Sandbox is its own subscription from $17 a month, priced by test emails caught, with yearly billing up to 20% cheaper.

Contacts, for campaigns

Email Marketing is priced by contacts from $15 for 10,000, with an email allowance at each step and yearly billing up to 20% cheaper.

Features by tier, not by add-on

Dedicated IP, SSO and sub-accounts arrive with Business rather than as add-ons, which is why Business costs $55 more than Basic at 100,000.

Seats and domains

Free is 1 user and 1 domain, Basic 3 and 5, Business 100 and 100, Enterprise unlimited.

How it works

How to work out what Mailtrap will cost you

Step 01

Count a busy month of sends

Pull sending logs for a normal month and your busiest. Mailtrap bills emails sent, so the busy month decides the step, and the free plan's 150-a-day cap decides whether free works at all.

Step 02

Pick the step, not the plan

Above 15,000 emails buy Basic's 50,000 step, above 60,000 the 100,000 step. Overage is capped, so do not plan to live on it.

Step 03

Decide if Business features are worth $55

A dedicated IP, SSO, sub-accounts and longer logs are the only difference at 100,000. If you need none, stay on Basic.

Step 04

Add Sandbox and Marketing separately

Price each product on its own, take the yearly rate on Sandbox and Marketing, then ask sales for the 20% bundle discount.

How much does Mailtrap cost?

Mailtrap's sending product, Email API/SMTP, costs $15 a month for 10,000 emails, $20 for 50,000 and $30 for 100,000 on the Basic plan. Business runs from $85 for 100,000 to $450 for 750,000, and Enterprise is $750 for 1.5 million and $1,250 for 2.5 million. A free plan sends 4,000 emails a month, capped at 150 a day.

That is only one of three Mailtrap price lists. Email Sandbox, the testing inbox most developers know Mailtrap for, is billed separately from $17 a month, and Email Marketing, the campaign builder, is billed by contacts from $15 a month. Each product has its own plan and its own invoice line, so a team using two of them pays two subscriptions.

ProductEntry paid planWhat it is for
Email API/SMTP$15 a month for 10,000 emailsTransactional and bulk mail sent from your app over API or SMTP
Email Sandbox$17 a month, $14 billed yearlyCatching test email in staging so it never reaches a real person
Email Marketing$15 a month, $12 billed yearlyNewsletters and campaigns to an opt-in contact list

Prices come from Mailtrap's published pricing file and its interactive pricing page, read on October 9, 2026. The cost per 1,000 emails, the upgrade thresholds and the bundle totals below are our arithmetic on those figures.

Mailtrap Email API pricing by volume

Email API/SMTP is priced in volume steps, and the price per email falls as you climb: $1.50 per 1,000 at the 10,000 step, $0.30 per 1,000 at Basic's 100,000 step and $0.50 per 1,000 on Enterprise. The yearly toggle on the pricing page leaves every Email API price unchanged, so there is no discount for paying a year ahead on the sending product.

Plan and monthly emailsPrice a monthCost per 1,000 (ours)
Free, 4,000$0No overage allowed
Basic, 10,000$15$1.50
Basic, 50,000$20$0.40
Basic, 100,000$30$0.30
Business, 100,000$85$0.85
Business, 250,000$200$0.80
Business, 500,000$300$0.60
Business, 750,000$450$0.60
Enterprise, 1,500,000$750$0.50
Enterprise, 2,500,000$1,250$0.50
Above 5,000,000QuoteNegotiated

Look at the two 100,000 rows. Basic and Business send the same number of emails, and Business costs $55 a month more. That $55 buys the dedicated IP with automatic IP warm-up, SSO, sub-accounts, 15 days of logs instead of 5, 100 users and 100 domains instead of 3 and 5, and 24/7 live chat. If you need none of those, Basic at $30 undercuts SendGrid, Resend, MailerSend, Mailgun and Postmark at 100,000 emails. Only Amazon SES is cheaper in the roundup further down.

Mailtrap overage and when to move up a step

Extra emails cost $1.00 per 1,000 on Basic, $0.88 on Business and $0.55 on Enterprise, and the free plan cannot go over at all. Mailtrap also says overages are capped and recommends upgrading when you send well above your limit, so overage is a buffer for a busy month, not a way to run a larger plan at a lower step.

Within that buffer, the step you should buy is a simple break-even. These thresholds are our arithmetic: below each one, the smaller step plus overage costs less; above it, the next step is cheaper.

MoveBreak-even volumeWhy
Basic 10,000 to Basic 50,00015,000 emails$15 plus 5,000 extra at $1.00 equals the $20 step
Basic 50,000 to Basic 100,00060,000 emails$20 plus 10,000 extra equals the $30 step
Business 100,000 to 250,000about 230,700$85 plus overage at $0.88 reaches $200
Business 250,000 to 500,000about 363,600$200 plus overage reaches $300
Business 500,000 to 750,000about 670,500$300 plus overage reaches $450
Business 750,000 to Enterpriseabout 1,090,900$450 plus overage reaches $750

The first row surprises most buyers. A team sending 16,000 emails a month should not sit on the $15 plan and pay overage; the $20 step covers 50,000 and is already cheaper. The free plan has the opposite trap: 4,000 a month sounds generous, but the 150-a-day cap means a single launch-day burst of password resets or receipts stops at 150.

What each Mailtrap sending plan includes

Free includes the API and SMTP relay, webhooks, templates, the bulk stream, open tracking and SPF, DKIM and DMARC setup, with 3 days of logs, 1 user and 1 domain. Basic adds click tracking, branded HTTPS links, IP allowlisting, 3 users, 5 domains and 5 days of logs.

Business adds the dedicated IP with automatic warm-up, Mailtrap's SaaS safeguard, SSO, sub-accounts, 15-day logs, 24/7 live chat, priority support, deliverability help and migration assistance, plus 100 users and 100 domains and a 30 MB message limit. Enterprise adds audit logs, content-free logging, 30-day logs, custom contracts, enterprise billing and unlimited users and domains.

Every sending plan, the free one included, carries suppression management, bounce categorization, feedback-loop data, throttling, deliverability analytics, 2FA and Mailtrap's GDPR, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 coverage.

Mailtrap Email Sandbox pricing

Email Sandbox costs $17 a month for 500 test emails on Basic, $42 for 5,000 on Team, $123 for 50,000 on Business and $498 for unlimited on Enterprise. Paying yearly drops those to $14, $34, $99 and $399 a month, which is $168, $408, $1,188 and $4,788 a year.

The yearly saving is not flat. By our arithmetic it is 17.6% on Basic, 19.0% on Team, 19.5% on Business and 19.9% on Enterprise, which is where the "up to 20%" on the page comes from. A free sandbox catches 50 test emails a month in 1 sandbox for 1 user.

Sandbox planMonthly, yearly per monthLimits
Basic$17, $14500 test emails, 3 users, 50 emails per sandbox
Team$42, $345,000 test emails, 5 users, 5 sandboxes
Business$123, $9950,000 test emails, 50 users, 50 sandboxes
Enterprise$498, $399Unlimited test emails and users, 300 sandboxes, SSO

Sandbox mail is never delivered, so it costs nothing on the sending side. Teams that already pay for a sending plan still buy Sandbox separately if they want QA to see staging email.

Mailtrap Email Marketing pricing

Email Marketing is billed by contacts. Essential is $15 a month for 10,000 contacts and 30,000 emails, or $29 for 25,000 contacts and 75,000 emails. Pro runs from $59 for 25,000 contacts and 125,000 emails to $499 for 250,000 contacts and 1.25 million emails. Yearly billing lowers those to $12, $23, $47 and $399 a month.

Plan and contactsMonthly, yearly totalEmails a month
Essential, 10,000$15, $144 a year30,000
Essential, 25,000$29, $278 a year75,000
Pro, 25,000$59, $566 a year125,000
Pro, 50,000$109, $1,046 a year250,000
Pro, 100,000$214, $2,054 a year500,000
Pro, 250,000$499, $4,790 a year1,250,000

At 25,000 contacts, Pro costs $30 a month more than Essential for 50,000 more emails, the dedicated IP, SSO, sub-accounts and 24/7 chat. A list you mail three times a month fits Essential; one you mail five times needs Pro. The free marketing plan holds 500 contacts and 1,500 emails with no scheduling and no automations.

Mailtrap bundle discounts and a typical stack

Mailtrap takes 20% off the cheaper plan when you use two products and 20% off the two cheaper plans when you use all three, but only through sales. It is not applied at self-serve checkout.

A common SaaS setup pairs Basic sending at 100,000 emails ($30) with Team Sandbox ($42 monthly or $34 yearly). Here is what that costs under each option, by our arithmetic.

SetupMonthly costNotes
Basic 100k plus Team Sandbox, monthly$72Self-serve list prices
Same, Sandbox billed yearly$64$34 sandbox, sending has no yearly discount
Same, with the two-product discount$5820% off the $30 sending plan, through sales

The discount lands on the cheaper plan, so it is worth asking for only when the second product is a meaningful line on the bill.

Can you use Mailtrap for cold email?

No. Mailtrap's acceptable use policy says outreach without the respective consent from recipients is prohibited, and it bans sending to purchased, rented, third-party, co-registration, publicly available data or partner lists of any kind. A cold prospect list fails both rules.

The policy also requires you to hold an up to date record of consent before you send commercial email. That is the standard position for shared sending infrastructure: SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, MailerSend and SMTP2GO take the same line, which we compare provider by provider in the best SMTP server for cold email guide. A relay protects one IP reputation for every customer, so it closes accounts that draw complaints.

Cold outreach belongs on mailboxes you own. A Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 inbox on your own domain sends at a human pace and builds a reputation that is yours alone. ColdMailer is built for that setup: you connect your inbox, import prospects, and it writes one personalized email per person, runs follow-ups in the same thread and caps each inbox's daily sends. The SMTP email sender page shows how the connection works, and if you are weighing relays for your product mail, our Postmark vs Mailgun pricing comparison runs the same arithmetic on two of Mailtrap's rivals.

Use cases

Which buyers Mailtrap pricing works well for

1

SaaS teams sending account mail

Password resets, receipts and alerts up to 100,000 a month fit Basic at $30, with the sandbox from the same vendor for staging.

2

QA and engineering teams

Sandbox alone, from $17 a month, keeps staging email away from real inboxes without paying for sending at all.

3

Growing products that need a dedicated IP

Business from $85 includes the IP and automatic warm-up, where other relays charge for an IP separately.

4

Companies needing SSO and audit trails

Business brings SSO and sub-accounts; Enterprise adds audit logs and content-free logging for regulated data.

5

Small newsletters on an opt-in list

Email Marketing Essential at $15 for 10,000 contacts covers a list mailed up to three times a month.

6

Not a fit for cold outreach

Prospecting email to people who have not opted in breaks Mailtrap's policy. Send it from your own mailboxes instead.

FAQ

Mailtrap pricing FAQ

Mailtrap's sending product costs $15 a month for 10,000 emails, $20 for 50,000 and $30 for 100,000 on Basic, and from $85 to $450 on Business. Email Sandbox is separate, from $17 a month, and Email Marketing from $15. Each product is billed on its own plan.

Each Mailtrap product has a free tier. Free sending allows 4,000 emails a month with a 150-a-day cap and no overage. Free Sandbox catches 50 test emails a month, and free Marketing holds 500 contacts and 1,500 emails without scheduling or automations.

Yes for Sandbox and Marketing, which save up to 20% when billed yearly. The Email API/SMTP sending plans cost the same whether you choose monthly or yearly on the pricing page, so there is no yearly discount on sending.

Overage costs $1.00 per 1,000 emails on Basic, $0.88 on Business and $0.55 on Enterprise. The free plan has no overage. Mailtrap says overages are capped and recommends upgrading when you send well above your plan, so treat overage as a buffer.

At 100,000 emails, Basic costs $30 and Business $85. Business adds a dedicated IP with automatic warm-up, SSO, sub-accounts, 15-day logs, 100 users and domains, and 24/7 live chat. Basic stops at 100,000 emails, 3 users and 5 domains.

A dedicated IP with automatic IP warm-up is included from the Business plan, which starts at $85 a month for 100,000 emails. The free and Basic plans send from shared infrastructure.

At 100,000 emails a month, Mailtrap Basic costs $30 and SendGrid Essentials 100K costs $34.95, so Mailtrap is slightly cheaper. Amazon SES is cheaper than both at about $10 for the same volume, with no plan features attached.

No. Mailtrap's acceptable use policy prohibits outreach without the recipient's consent and bans purchased, third-party and publicly available data lists. Cold outreach should go out from mailboxes you own, which is how ColdMailer sends.

Using two Mailtrap products gets 20% off the cheaper plan, and using three gets 20% off the two cheaper plans while the most expensive stays at full price. The discount is applied by Mailtrap's sales team, not at checkout.

Sandbox costs $17 a month on Basic, $42 on Team, $123 on Business and $498 on Enterprise, or $14, $34, $99 and $399 a month billed yearly. The free plan catches 50 test emails a month.

Pricing a relay for cold outreach? Send from your own inbox from $49 a month

ColdMailer connects to the Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or SMTP mailboxes you already own, writes a personalized email for every prospect and runs the follow-ups, so you are not asking a relay to carry mail its policy prohibits. Starter is $49 a month, Pro is $99 and Enterprise is $249, and a new account gets 25 free emails with no credit card required.
